Revolutionizing Poker Can Be Charitable Poker has always been a one-man (or woman) sport. March 13th marks the day all of that changes when SPUNKA, INC., a Los Angeles-based special events agency, brings Texas Hold’em poker to a new level! The upstart company will be holding a first-of-its-kind Texas Hold’em Tournament & Team Challenge in the Hollywood Park Casino. Unlike other tournaments where card players battle the field of competitors alone, Spunka’s tournament combines individual play with teamwork. While individuals will still be vying for the top spots with solid cash payouts, those who don’t place so high still have a shot at the team prize. The coveted team prize is a vacation package at a Las Vegas Mega-Resort for the winning team! The tournament allows participants to enter the event as individuals or apart of a 3 to 5 person team. Each team member competes individually through the tournament while collectively increasing the group’s chances of winning the team prize. If you’re not a gambler or serious card player, that’s not a problem. Spunka has also organized a Battle of the Sexes themed mini-tournament that caters to those who just want to come and have fun. This diversion to the main event will even include raffle prizes and poker lessons for those who want to learn the game. Prize sponsors for the event include prominent local and national organizations such as The Sharper Image, 24 Hour Fitness and Mountain High Ski Resort. Not only is this a great networking and teambuilding opportunity for businesses and individuals alike but two great charities will also benefit from the event: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Save the Children USA. So even if you don’t last very long in the tournament, you can rest easier knowing two charities will benefit from the event. Web Host C I Host Sponsors Poker Pro
Web Host C I Host Sponsors Poker Pro Web hosting provider C I Host (cihost.com) announced last week that it would sponsor professional poker player Dutch Boyd during his competition on the poker circuit. Boyd, who will wear C I Host's orange logo on his attire, will make his first sponsorship appearance at a tournament held at Harrah's Rincon Casino in San Diego, California from February 27 to March 2. The coverage is expected to draw over a million viewers, C I host said. C I Host has developed a reputation for its unusual marketing tactics. In April 2003, the company contracted Jim Nelson to tattoo the C I Host logo on the back of his head. And last year, C I Host offered to pay $10,000 to any player or fan captured in the television news coverage of the fight between fans and players at an NBA game in Detroit, if they tattooed the company's logo on their fist. The company also offered to pay $10,000 to any professional athlete that tattooed the company's logo on their bicep and tested steroid-free. "C I Host invented the tattoo advertisement craze, and naturally, some folks thought we weren't playing with a full deck. However, the guerilla medium is everywhere - all over the news. Now, we'll try our hand in poker," says Faulkner.
